October 19th Event

September 1st, 2013

MMA action returns to Plymouth Memorial Hall on Saturday, October 19th. Here are some of the highlighted and featured match-ups taking place that night. The main event will feature the top 2 flyweights in New England, Robbie Leroux from Clinch MMA and Quest MMA’s Darren Mima, facing off for the Cage Titans 125lb pro title, as well as bragging rights as the best at that weight in the region! Leroux comes in to this fight with an extensive wrestling pedigree and will look to use that coupled with his relentless ground and pound to take home the title. As for Mima, he is a super aggressive fighter out of New York who is no stranger to big time fights as he has already captured 2 other title belts so far in his career, one as an amateur and another as a pro with a different promotion. In the Co-Main event, two veterans with over 30 fights combined between the two of them will square off when Lauzon MMA’s Joe Cushman and Cape Cod Fighting Alliance’s Fernando Perez meet inside the cage. Perez is an accomplished Muay Thai striker as well as a BJJ brown belt and Cushman is a wrestler by trade with solid jiu-jitsu and heavy hands so this a very interesting match-up that could play out a number of ways on fight night.

In addition to the pros, the amateurs will also be in the spot light that night with 3 Cage Titans’ ammy champs all defending their belts and the finale of the Quest for the 170lb title. First up, Richard Hunter from DCNU and Felix Gomez from Florian MMA will square off for the vacant 170lb amateur title. Hunter and Gomez were successful in July both stopping their opponents in impressive fashion earning them spots in the finale with hopes of walking away with the belt. Next up, 185lb amateur champion Mike Rodriguez out of Team Trifecta returns to the cage to put his belt on the line against top ranked Mark Glover out of Quest MMA in New York. These two guys match-up almost identical, both known knock-out artists, both stand 6’4 and both sport a 3-1 record (Rodriguez 2 first round KOs and Glover 3 first round KOs) so this may be decided by whoever can capitalize more on the other’s mistakes. Then we have 155lb Dan Lopez from Boston Muay Thai defends his title against number 1 contender Kyle Bochniak from Broadway Jiu Jitsu. On paper, based on the schools they train out of, it looks like the classic striker vs grappler but in past fights both guys have shown that they are not one dimensional fighters so this fight could go either way. The final amateur title fight of the night will see 145lb champ Peter Barrett from MAXX Training Center battling it out with undefeated, Nestor X from Renzo Gracie CT. Barrett is fresh of his devastating KO victory last event in which he captured the title and is one of the most exciting fighters to ever step in the cage for Cage Titans, capturing multiple Fight of the Night awards and 2 Knock-Out of the Nights. Nestor X may be his toughest test to date though and is not traveling from Connecticut to go away empty handed. Nestor is a BJJ purple belt and comes in with a perfect 4-0 record with 3 of those wins coming via first round submission.
