XVII Recap

January 27th, 2014

A packed, sold-out crowd filled Plymouth Memorial Hall this past Saturday night for Cage Titans XVII. 24 amatuer fighters, 15 of them making their debuts, stepped into the cage and really started the night off in exciting fashion. From the first fight of the night ending in a quick knock-out, to the unbelievable back and forth Fight of the Night performance between Billy Connors and Nick Renuad to the controversial decision in Perez/Demko battle, the amateurs really got the capacity crowd on their feet, setting the stage for the pros! On the main card, Jesse Merrit’s stock certainly rose with his impressive first round TKO victory. Jesse relied on his boxing background and unleashed a quick combo putting his opponet on his heals before dropping to the mat, with the ref waving the fight over. Next up Billy Giovanella bounced back in the win column after dropping his past two fights (First losses of his career) by pulling out a slick triangle choke forcing his opponent to tap out in the first round. Then Kevin Haley made short work of 15 fight vet Ralph Johnson by securing a nice kimura off his back. And finally in the Main Event top ranked Juliano Coutinho cemented himself as the number 1 heavyweight in New England by dispatching of a former Bellator veteran in under 2 minutes via rear nake choke.  Below please find results as well as various media outlets that covered the event.
