Cage Titans XX Announced

July 18th, 2014

Cage Titans comes to Plymouth Memorial Hall for its 20th event on Saturday, August 23rd and its looking like an amazing night of action is in store. The Main Card has been announced with some exciting match-ups including 4 amateur champions all defending their title belts.

In the Main Event, Cage Titans’ 145lb champion Frank Sforza from South Shore Sportfighting returns after a 3 year lay-off to take on #9 ranked Taylor Trahan from Team Link NH. Before his hiatus, Frank sat atop the rankings with an undefeated professional and amateur record and was the first fighter to win a Cage Titans title as both an amateur and pro. Across the cage from him will be BJJ specialist Taylor Trahan who will be looking to spoil the happy return of Sforza. Trahan just recently cracked the rankings by upsetting ranked fighter Joe Pingitore by late 3rd round submission. Sforza typically uses his wrestling background to take fights to the ground but it will be interesting to see how this one plays out seeing Trahan has such a dangerous submission game!

In the Co-Main Event, Johnny ‘Cupcakes’ Campbell from South Shore Sportfighting battles it out with ‘The Peruvian Prince’ Fernando Perez out of Team Boxe. The always entertaining Cupcakes has been on a tear as of late picking up wins in the Main Event at the past two Cage Titans events over top ranked opponents, Kody Norby and Robbie Leroux. Perez has been hot as of late as well and is coming in on a 3 fight win streak, all fights in his home country of Peru. Perez poses a formidable challenge to Cupcakes as he is both dangerous on the ground and standing. As for Cupcakes, his unique style of stand-up is his strong suit and has proven in his past two fights he is not easy to get to the ground. Early predictions are saying that this is going to be a stand-up slugfest and the fans are sure to be in for a treat with this match-up.

In another featured bout, #2 ranked Remo Cardarelli from Rivera Atheltics will face-off with former top 5 ranked Anthony ‘Skwirl’ Carmenatty. Remo is a fast rising star locally and in his past two outings took out 2 top ranked opponents, last show dispatching his opponent in just 1 minute of the first round.  With beating 2 of the top 5 already and the other 2 unavailable, Remo looked for the next best challenger and he found it in Carmenatty. Carmenatty has been on the local scene for 5 years and as a fun fact, was the first fighter to ever step inside the Cage Titans cage, he was the first fight of Cage Titans very first card.  Though he has been inactive as of late, the tough veteran has fought a whose who of local guys and was ranked #5 prior to being removed for inactivity.

Other pros in action…After a successfull pro debut last event, ‘Slippery’ Peter Barret from CCFA will look to continue his winning ways when he takes on grizzled veteran Franklin ‘Turtle’ Isabel out of CNBJJ. Isabel has shown over his 8 year professional career that when he is on his game, he is as tough as they come. As of late though there has been none tougher than Barrett so it will be interesting to see if the vet Isabell has one more in him or it will be just another notch on Barrett’s belt. And rounding out the pros, ProElite’s ‘Brutal’ Bobby Flynn returns after almost a year off and takes on Ralph Johnson. Johnson is a dangerous striker who is coming in fresh off a first round KO back in June and Flynn will most likely have to rely on his boxing background to keep Johnson at bay in what should be a exciting battle.

As for the 4 amateur Cage Titans title fights, the first champion defending his belt will be 125lb champion Kris Moutinho from Rivera Atheltics who takes on undefeated challenger ‘Sleepy’ Norman Fox from MMAathletix in Maine. Next up will be the 170lb champion Rich Hunter from DCNU putting his belt on the line against Team Link Hooksett’s Paul ‘Piglet’ Gaffney. The the heavyweights will take center cage after that when Team United’s Mario Gonzalez defends his title against former champion Nick Fonteccio from Connors MMA. And the final title fight of the night will take place between champion Dan Dubuque from DCNU and challenger Ricky Proctor from Lauzon MMA.
