This past Saturday night, Plymouth Memorial Hall played host to a sold-out capcity crowd for Cage Titans: XXIII. The fans came out in droves for this stacked fight card, top to bottom, featuring some of New England’s most beloved and talented fighters. The night started out with a bang, pitting two 125lb amateurs, both making their cage debuts against one another, in what ended up turning-out to be the Fight of the Night winner for the undercard. As for the main card, it kicked off with the crowning of a new 155lb amateur champion when Don Shainis stopped his opponent via TKO in the beginning stages of the 4th round. Next up, 145lb ammy champion Jeff Perez cemented himself as #1 in New England and was successful in defending his title by defeating challenger Mark Cardarelli. Cardarelli, though coming up short, surprised many spectators and won some new fans with the amount of heart he showed in battle at the age of 42. And in what many afterwards were calling Fight of the Year, Shane Mulligan and Pat McCrohan went toe to toe and bell to bell in an absolute war. Picking up the decision and 185lb amateur title was McCrohan, but this was simply one of those bouts that no one came out a loser. And finishing up the title fights was pro 145lb champ, Frank Sforza showing off his wrestling dominance by winning via ref stoppage with 1 second left in the 4th round. In our final pro match-up of the night, Andy Aiello silenced the crowd before sending them home with beautiful head, body, head combination dropping his opponent and picking up the TKO victory.
