After 5 amazing sold-out events last year, Cage Titans puts 2015 behind them and looks forward to an even better 2016. With that being said, there is no better time to start than when they return to Plymouth Memorial Hall on Saturday, January 30th. There will be three titles on the line, fan favorites returning to action and hungry up and comers all taking the cage looking to start the new year off with a bang! In one of the most anticipated fights of the night, Jeff Perez and Don Shainis battle it out for the 145lb title. Shainis, who was the 155lb champ, vacated his belt at that weight and now looks to take his undefeated record to this new class and reign supreme there. As for Perez, he is a former, defending champion and when the 145lb belt became vacant, he offered to take on anyone in order to capture the belt once again. What more could you ask for, two of the very best fighters in New England squaring off in a title fight matchup that has “Fight of the Night” written all over it! (UPDATE – Perez was forced to withdraw due to injury so Kris Moutinho decided to postpone going pro and not vacate his belt so will now defend it against Shainis)
In addition, the flyweight title will also be on the line when top contenders, Ryan ‘Razzle Dazzle’ Kane takes on Rich Santiago. This grudge match has been brewing for a while and after exchanging many verbal taunts, they finally get to meet inside the cage. Obviously on fight night both want to walk away with the belt, but not seeing their rival leave with it around their waist, as well as having bragging rights, adds even more fuel to this fire.
And the final title fight of the night will see current 155lb champion, Joe Giannetti defend his belt against Jose Rivera. These two guys are familiar foes as they fought last January, with Giannetti picking up the second round submission victory. Since then though, Rivera has been on an absolute tear stopping all 3 of his next opponents via chokes while positioning himself for this desired rematch. As for Giannetti, no one has yet been able to figure him out, sporting a 6-0 record with all wins via stoppage, and he predicts the same result when he defends his title this go around with Rivera.
In other action, Keegan Hornstra returns to the cage to take on the very active Sean Lally. The hard hitting Lally had a busy 2015 going 3-1, with all stoppage victories, and is looking to make quick work of his first opponent here in 2016. As for Hornstra, he has been out of the cage for a year and a half and hopes to pick up where he left off when he was winner of 2 out 3 fights, with both wins via first round finishes. Adding fuel to the fire, this is a fight that Hornstra specifically asked for and Lally feels it is his place to send Hornstra back to the sidelines wishing he never made the return to action.
