Cage Titans 57 on January 7th

November 17th, 2022

Cage Titans kicks off 2023 in style with Cage Titans 57 on Saturday, January 7th at Plymouth Memorial Hall. In the Main Event, ‘Champ, Champ’ Joe Giannetti puts his Lightweight Title on the line when he takes on long-time New England veteran Saul Almeida. Almeida has been fighting professionally for 15 years, facing off with a who’s who of opponents across his storied career, and in this fight we get that typical veteran versus up and comer storyline. Giannetti is the younger of the two with goals of getting another step closer to the UFC, and hopes that a name like Almedia could push him over the edge after a year that saw him not only captured this Lightweight Title but also the Cage Titans Welterweight belt. But lets not forget Almeida, this is a match-up that he wanted and knowing him, its a fight that he most likely sees holes in his opponent’s game in which his experience and style could exploit.

As for other pros in action, local fan favorites Peter Barrett and Brendan Battles will be featured on the card as well as Hassan Graham and Andrew Valdina, fresh off of impressive first round finishes in their pro debuts last event. And rounding out the Main Card will be two fun fights pitting New Englander vs New Englander when Maine’s Kam Arnold battles Connecticut’s Will Smith and Massachusetts’ Aaron Hughes takes on Maine’s Matt Denning.

As for the amateur undercard, it will feature a Flyweight Title Unification Bout between the two best flyweights in New England. Nate Russell (8-2) captured the belt last year and while he was contemplating his next move, possibly moving pro, he decided to step aside an allow his belt to be up for grabs between the #2 and #3 ranked fighters in the division. During that time, Tyler Smythe (6-3) won the title, and now with Russell deciding to stay amateur, the showdown is on in a champion vs champion bout for the ages to truly determine who the top dog is.
