XIV Recap

April 15th, 2013

Plymouth Memorial Hall was the scene of the crime for Cage Titans XIV this past Saturday night, April 13th. The event featured 17 action packed fights highlighted by the crowning of 3 new amateur champions as well as a successful title defense for pro 155lb champion Jimmy ‘Jimbo Slice’ Davidson. The main event saw Jimmy Davidson making quick work of challenger Jeremy Ross by stopping him with elbow strikes from the crucifix position, same position and stoppage he won the title with last July. The defense improved Jimmy’s record to 6-0 with an equal spilt of 3 wins by submission and 3 wins by TKO, 5 out of 6 coming within the first round. Vacant titles were up for grabs in the amateur ranks and Dan Lopez, Ruso Khubejashvili and Manny Bermudez all walked out of the cage with new belts around their waists. At 155lbs Dan Lopez relied on his Muay Thai background, landing crippling leg kicks that took the steam right out of Brain Allard, to pull out a 5 round, unanimous decision victory. For the 145lb title, Ruso Khubejashvili notched the win in an odd ending when his opponent Ricky Proctor unfortunately dislocated his shoulder while shooting for a takedown, causing a verbal submission in the second round as he dropped to the mat. Not the decisive win that Ruso hoped for but a win none the less for the top ranked fighter, improving his record to 5-0. The final amateur title fight of the night was in the 135lb division and saw Manny Bermudez showing off his superior ground game by submitting George Nassar via kimura in just a little over a minute in to the first round.  Below please find results as well as various media outlets that covered the event.

We are excited to announce our next Medical Clinic/Media Day/Open Workout this upcoming Sunday, March 24th at 10am at the new Lauzon MMA gym in Easton, MA. (Brand new facility with a ton of mat space and great location off the highway) As always, this is open to fighters, training partners, coaches, fans, etc. (Not just fighters that are fighting on April 13th)

1) Medical Clinic – Doctors will be there to take care of all medicals and blood work for your license. (Physical, EKG, Blood, CT scan referrals if needed) Cost for everything is roughly $220 but you can also get individual tests done as well. (Just blood or just EKG, etc) In addition, we will have an eye doctor on site to perform dilated eye exams. (Additional $40) That’s right, ALL IN ONE DAY, GET EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO BE LICENSED! Please give us a heads-up specifically if you plan on using these services so we can staff accordingly as last Media Day we had over 20 fighters getting medicals. This is open to ALL FIGHTERS not just those fighting on April 13th so feel free to bring your teammates to take advantage of it, especially if they plan on fighting in the future or have something scheduled upcoming for another promotion.

2) Media Day – All day we will be taking photos, doing interviews and shooting video during and while you train. Footage will be used to hype up the fights in the weeks leading to the event. For all the pros and the ammy title fighters, you will have a custom one made for your fights to play before you walk to the cage on fight night. Plus we will be doing individual promo poster photos and stare down photos between all competitors in attendance.

3) Open Workout – Great opportunity to roll and train for fun with guys from other gyms and schools. Last two media days, at Sityodtong and South Shore Sportfighting, each had at least 40-50 guys on the mats. (SSSF fan pic above) Plus, you may get the chance to test yourself against some UFC veterans which is always a good time…Joe and Dany Lauzon, Joey Proctor, Alex Karalexis, Josh Grispi, Chuck O’Neil, Jimmy Quinlan and Tom Lawler are just some of the guys who have been at past events!

Please confirm that you will be in attendance and also a list of who you are bringing with you so we can add them to the guest list as well. (This event is free!) And remember, this is open to EVERYONE…We know there are a couple fight cards going on in April, so if you need meds for those fights, come on by!

To RSVP and for additional information please visit the Official Medical Clinic/Media Day/Open Workout Facebook Event.

Cage fighting returns to Plymouth Memorial Hall on Saturday, April 13th. This event is shaping up to be one of the best cards the venue has seen yet with 19 fights scheduled including a staggering 6 title fights taking place. In the Main Event, 135lb Cage Titans champion Tateki Matsuda from Sityodtong will take on challenger Robbie Leroux from Clinch MMA. In addition to Tateki holding the Cage Titans belt, he has fought on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) and Bellator Fighting Championship as well as coming off a big win when he went outside the country this past December to fight in Japan. A BJJ purple belt paired with top notch Muay Thai striking, Tateki is one of the most feared fighters at his weight in the region. With that being said, Robbie Leroux, a US Navy Iraq War Veteran, is the type of fighter that fears no one and actually came to the matchmaker specifically asking for this match-up. Leroux comes in to this fight with an extensive wrestling pedigree, a 2x All-State Champ, National High School All-America, 4x Freestyle State Champ and 2x Greco State Champ, and will look to use that coupled with his relentless ground and pound to take home the title.

For the Co-Main Event, we will see another Sityodtong fighter, Cage Titans 155lb champion Jimmy Davidson battling it out against top contender and Gladiator BJJ student/instructor, Jeremy Ross. Davidson is a rising star in New England who has yet to be figured out inside the cage, as he holds a perfect overal record of 10-0 record, 5-0 pro and 5-0 ammy. Davidson was a stand-out wrestler at Sandwich High School before transitioning to MMA but is not your typical lay-n-pray type fighter that sometimes you see with former wrestlers. In all 10 of his fights he has only been to a decision once, which was as an amateur almost 4 years ago, and as a professional has 4 first round stoppages, 2 via RNC and 2 via TKO. Standing across from Davidson will be a very accomplished fighter and BJJ practicioner, Jeremy Ross. Ross is no stranger to the cage and has been fighting for over 6 years, as well as holds the rank of a BJJ brown belt who has been competing in grappling competitions even longer. Ross, though known for his BJJ espcially since 5 out of his 6 wins are via submission chokes, has very underated striking and looks to really take the fight to Davidson in hopes of gaining another title to display on the mantle.

Be sure to follow along on the Cage Titans FC Fan Page as specific match-ups will be highlighted and interviews released over the next couple weeks leading up to the event.
